The Department of Culture and Society at the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University invites applications for the position of assistant professor of Global Governance. The assistant professorship is a three years long full-time position. The appointment begins on 1 August 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position
We are particularly interested in a candidate with a strong research profile in global governance and proven expertise and research
experience in the field of international development policies and
projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching
global governance and for developing and teaching the course in
international project management on the Master’s degree
programme in International Studies. While anchored in the
International Studies programme, the successful candidate will also
be expected to teach and develop activities at a broader
departmental level. Additional tasks include support of the
International Studies programme’s outreach strategy, especially
regarding international organisations, universities and companies.
The position also entails work to strengthen the global governance
profile of the Department of Culture and Society through
international research as well as through actively engaging in the
further internationalisation of the study programme. We are seeking
a dedicated candidate who will contribute to a broad spectrum of
Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of education and
teaching. The successful candidate is expected to contribute actively
to the department’s academic environment.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications in a
field relevant to the described research area. The position also
requires:
- A background in sociology, history, law or similar disciplines
- Prior experience with teaching in an international classroom
- Mastery of academic English in the classroom
- Interest in interdisciplinary research cooperation
- The ability to initiate and participate in collaborative projects with
other research and teaching programs at Aarhus University and in international contexts
- Interest in the application of innovative teaching methods, such as new forms of team teaching and collaborative student involvement
- Interest in working with PhD students (talent development)
- Interest in knowledge exchange.
Prior experience within international organisations or international projects will be considered advantageous.
Non-Danish speaking applicants should be aware that the acquisition of sufficient Danish to participate in the daily administrative and academic business of the department within two years of taking up the position is a condition for employment.

The International Studies programme at Aarhus University
International Studies at Aarhus University is a multidisciplinary, Master’s degree programme which is taught in English. In recent years, it has developed into one of the largest Master’s degree programmes taught in English at the Faculty of Arts, attracting students from all over the world.

The Department of Culture and Society
The focus of the teaching and research activities of the Department of Culture and Society is the interplay between culture and society in time and space:
- from the traditional disciplines of the humanities and theology to applied social research
- from antiquity to the issues facing contemporary societies
- from familiar Danish cultural forms to other - and very different - worlds
- from local questions to global challenges.
The department encompasses a range of strong research and degree programmes, which in dialogue with each other and with society work to develop innovative ways of addressing issues of topical or general interest. The department’s goal is to produce compelling research with international resonance and visibility, as well as to offer high-quality undergraduate and post-graduate study programmes. We also work to engage Danish society in a fruitful exchange of knowledge. We offer an informal, yet challenging working environment. Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts combines educational, theological and humanistic knowledge in order to strengthen Aarhus University’s efforts in the areas of research, researcher talent development, knowledge exchange and education. The faculty is the result of a fusion of thee former main academic areas: the Faculty of Humanities, the faculty of Theology and the Danish School of Education.
